The second conference is "Think Like a Lawyer, Talk Like a Geek 2012: Get Fluent in Technology" put on by Practising Law Institute on Monday, November 5, in New York City.
The Duke Law Center conference on October 31 will examine the usefulness and effectiveness of technology-assisted review as a tool to reduce discovery costs. The first panel will explain the technology, clarifying confusion about different tools all claiming to offer technology-assisted review. The second and third panels will examine the technology's advantages, drawbacks, and limitations. A judicial panel will address the challenging management decisions judges must make in reviewing the technology's application. Regard will speak at 9:15 a.m. at the Practising Law Institute conference on November 5. His panel is titled "Social Media and Advertising and will cover how social media sorts through millions of users in seconds, what information is collected from social media sites, how advertisers exploit data collected on social media, and whether social media privacy settings meet international standards for privacy. Lori Lesser, a partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, will also participate on the panel.
