IBN-Lokmat presents 'Garza Maharashtra' with Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT)
IBN-Lokmat presents 'Garza Maharashtra' with GMRT.
- (1888PressRelease) December 04, 2010 - On the completion of 50 glorious years of existence of Maharashtra state, IBN- Lokmat presents to its viewers an insightful episode of Garza Maharashtra which showcases organizations that have contributed to the upbringing and development of the state. This episode will showcase Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) a contribution of TATA institute of Fundamental Research. GMRT is a unique facility for radio astronomical research using the metre wavelengths range of the radio spectrum located at a site about 80 km north of Pune on 4th December 2010 at 8:30 pm exclusively on IBN-Lokmat.
NCRA, a center of the school of natural sciences of the TIFR, has set up a unique facility, the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) for radio astronomical research at metre wavelengths. GMRT is a very versatile instrument for investigating a variety of radio astrophysical problems ranging from nearby Solar system to the edge of observable Universe. GMRT consists of
30 fully steerable gigantic parabolic dishes of 45m diameter each spread over distances of upto 25 km.
GMRT is an indigenous project. The construction of 30 large dishes at a relatively small cost has been possible due to an important technological breakthrough achieved by Indian Scientists and Engineers in the design of light-weight, low-cost dishes. The design is based on what is being called the `SMART' concept - for Stretch Mesh Attached to Rope Trusses.
Every week Garza Maharashtra features Organizations who have played an integral part in the expansion and upbringing of Maharashtra. This week Garja Maharashtra focuses on GMRT, one of the most challenging experimental programmes in basic sciences undertaken by Indian scientists and engineers.
To know more about GMRT tune into IBN-Lokmat on Saturday, 4th December 2010 at 8:30pm.
You can also watch this episode on Sunday i.e. 5th December 2010 @ 11:30 am.
