- (1888PressRelease) September 26, 2012 - Ibis Singapore on Bencoolen, the worldwide economy hotel brand of the Accor group, is pleased to announce that it has been selected as the pilot hotel to launch the Planet 21 program in Singapore. This move is in line with Accor's pledge to implement its new sustainable development program --PLANET 21 - at all its hotels, reinforcing its standing as a flag bearer of sustainable and responsible development in the hotel industry.
The PLANET 21 program encapsulates the 21 commitments that Accor has made in favor of sustainable development that protects our planet, people and eco-systems. These 21 commitments are founded on the the seven strong pillars of Health, Nature, Carbon, Innovation, Local, Employment, and Dialogue.
"We are honored to be selected as the pilot hotel to launch the Planet 21 program in Singapore. This move shall make sustainable hospitality the core of our strategy, development, and innovation," said Mr. Pierre de Montgrand, General Manager, ibis Singapore Bencoolen. "We are completely dedicated to the Planet 21 initiatives. Therefore, we are undertaking training for all team members to encourage their participation in this cause which is not only a noble social cause but also makes great business sense."
Several measures have already been implemented at ibis Singapore on Bencoolen since April 2012 as part of the Planet 21 program. For example, select rooms are decked up with LED lights to reduce energy consumption, and plastic trays and hangers are replaced with wooden ones to reduce global warming effects. Besides, to encourage recycling of waste materials among customers, recycle bins are placed outside the Planet 21 rooms.
Numerous changes have been implemented in other departments as well including F&B and housekeeping. A healthier menu complete with salad, wide selection for fruits and use of less calorie dressings are available for customers.
In addition, cleaning products that are more eco-friendly (in terms of manufacturing) are integrated in the housekeeping department as part of the commitment to save Mother Nature. All of these initiatives will gradually limit the chemical/ carbon footprint of Ibis Singapore on Bencoolen.
