IAFT Introduces New Approach to Practical Filmmaking Education
Students guaranteed to work on US$1m feature film.
- (1888PressRelease) July 07, 2010 - LOS ANGELES/CEBU - The International Academy of Film and Television (IAFT) is pleased to announce the launch of its newest program 'Professional Immersion Program in Filmmaking'. The nine-month, hands-on program guarantees its students the opportunity to earn film credits and real-world experience by working on an actual feature film production for theatrical release.
The Professional Immersion Program in Filmmaking is a unique program exclusive to IAFT that has its schedule revolving around the shooting cycle of a feature film. Students will be given the opportunity to work in various departments on a rotating basis to expand their learning, from Pre-production through to Post Production. Mentored by industry professionals, students will get hands-on experience on set, using professional equipment and studio facilities in their course of study, and gain invaluable, practical working knowledge in filmmaking. The program will also incorporate classroom lectures that cover Film Marketing and Distribution.
"IAFT is committed to delivering affordable, practical education through a hands-on approach in a real-world situation," said Keith Sensing, Executive Director of IAFT. "Compared to other film schools, we are in a very unique situation to be able to offer an opportunity for our students to be involved in an actual movie production that is professionally produced for theatrical release. This is due to our affiliation with parent company Bigfoot Entertainment and its facilities arm Bigfoot Studios, and education doesn't get any more real-world than this."
Entitled A Life Wasted (working title), the feature film budgeted for US$1m will be directed by John Milton Branton, an all-rounded filmmaker who has held roles as a writer, producer, director, casting manager and actor.
"All necessary preparations are in place to kick-off this project, and while more hands to work on the movie is always welcome, it should not overcast the fact that this is a platform that will arm any aspiring filmmaker with the necessary skills and tools to be successful in this industry," said Branton.
"This program will ultimately springboard the careers of any aspiring filmmaker with the film credits that they will be earning for themselves - something that is worth more in this industry than mere certification," concluded Sensing.
Registration is now open and the program is scheduled to commence August 2, 2010. Registrants are required to have basic knowledge in filmmaking to be considered. For a more detailed syllabus of the program, please visit www.filmschool.ph/programs/immersion-program.php.
