  • (1888PressRelease) October 28, 2011 - Hyundai Commercial Vehicles, a sub-division of Hyundai Automotive South Africa that promotes the Hyundai H1 Panel Van and Hyundai H100, made history when it had its first separate local indoor display at the recent Johannesburg International Motor Show.

While Hyundai Commercials' operations in South Africa are on a much smaller scale, its market penetration in the segment for light commercial and medium commercial vehicles is steadily growing, with the same emphasis on quality, functionality and refinement of drivetrains that is evident on Hyundai's passenger vehicle side, said Wade Griffin, director of Hyundai Commercials, at the opening of the display.

"To improve the visibility of Hyundai's commercial vehicle operations in South Africa, we are exploring the possibility of opening stand-alone dealerships where our range - comprising our popular H1 Panel Van and H100 Bakkie and the rugged HD 65 and HD 72 trucks for the 3 and 4 ton markets - can be displayed and sold on their own," said Griffin to the motoring journalists gathered at the opening. He added that the massive scale of Hyundai's commercial vehicle production in Korea is a "wonderful source to grow the local commercial operations at Hyundai Automotive South Africa from".

Hyundai SA's new addition to its commercial range - the H1 Multicab - was displayed at the stand and will be launched in the first quarter of 2012. "We know we will have a winner in the Multicab, for it is a vehicle that combines the comfort of a five or six-seater with the slightly diminished cargo carrying capacity of the Panel Van," said Griffin. He also indicated that future plans include the introduction of two heavier weight trucks to match the offerings of Hyundai's competitors.

An important aspect of Hyundai South Africa's successful growth is the quality of service that the company delivers, also after the sale of a vehicle to its customers. Hyundai Commercials has a dealer network of 38 outlets, including Group 1 Hyundai in Midrand (http://www.group1-hyundai.co.za/), with a service network of 43 with representation in all nine provinces as well as in surrounding Southern African States and cities such as Gaborone in Botswana and Windhoek in Namibia. This ensures outstanding after sales service that keeps a clients business running at all times.
