Huntsville Cyber Security Contractor Addresses New FAR Rule Implementing the Controlled Classified Information Program

- Huntsville, AL (1888PressRelease) November 18, 2016 - H2L Solutions, a Huntsville-based cyber security government contractor, released a white paper discussing the major changes, impacts, and suggested first steps to responding to the newly implemented Controlled Classified Information (CUI) Program.
The CUI Program was originally established in 2010 to create a uniform, shared, transparent system for safeguarding and disseminating CUI. On September 14, 2016, the Government added 32 CFR 2002 - General Guidelines for Systematic Declassification Review of Foreign Government Information as a FAR rule, officially implementing the CUI Program. This rule establishes the policy for designating, handling, and controlling information that qualifies as CUI and will go into effect on November 14, 2016. The CUI Program will be implemented over a two-year timeline.
The impact every contractor doing work with the federal government will experience because of these changes is addressed in H2L Solutions' white paper, written by CEO Jonathan Hard. He states in the white paper that contractors should start seeing changes coming within the next year from agencies they are currently supporting. Those agencies will begin asking how their contractor base will protect its CUI data.
The program also introduces the need for CUI to be safeguarded to the NIST 800-171 standard by November 2017.
