  • (1888PressRelease) September 10, 2011 - "A key reason for HUET's success is its policy of working closely with everyone involved in the decision-making process, whether architects, interior designers, specifiers, installers or proprietors," explains Tom Moir, HUET's UK Sales Manager.

When transforming the iconic, but near derelict, neo-Gothic site at St Pancras into one of London's most prestigious hotels, every aspect of the building and refurbishing process had to meet high standards and pass stringent tests: this, in order to remain true to the building's heritage, and Sir George Gilbert Scott's original vision. Superior quality materials were sought, and performance, aesthetic values as well as environmental considerations were deemed paramount. More than 250 acoustic-rated Chorus 42 doorsets have been installed in the St Pancras Hotel's bedrooms and suites. All of the doorsets feature bespoke-finished frames and door leafs in tinted and varnished American white oak. The doors were supplied with factory-fitted cut-outs to receive the specified swipe-card access-control locks.

HUET's range of doors and finishes are made with the client's individual requirements in mind and the Chorus 42 features a multi-layer, 41-millimetre-thick, acoustic core and high-stability leaf created by the inclusion of two steel sheets. Intumescent and acoustic seals are factory-fitted within the frame and leaf, and tested to European standards for FD30 - a term used to describe a door that will hold back fire for up to 30 minutes.

As with all of HUET's doors, those for the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, London were crafted to the client's precise specifications. Because HUET's doorsets use a hardwood sandwich construction rather than steel, they can be finished in real wood veneers (as well as a wide range of other finishes) for maximum visual appeal.

"We discuss every aspect of every project at every stage - from the initial specification to the final installation. It is essential to understand, and respond to, our client's exact requirements. The ability to listen, consider, and satisfy is fundamental to our service and a prime reason why we have become a market leader," explains Tom Moir, who represents HUET in Britain.

The French-based company specialises in designing and manufacturing bespoke products that meet the most exacting specifications. As interior design is so important to the company's clients, HUET can offer a fully functional sample doorset during the approval process. In this way, specifiers can see exactly what will be delivered to the site in due course, and any changes can be discussed and agreed before production begins.

Prior to its refurbishment, the hotel, which is situated next to King's Cross-St Pancras railway station and the Eurostar terminal, was known as the Midland Grand Hotel. Built in 1873, it had stood empty and neglected since 2004. Apart from the hotel at St Pancras, Sir George Gilbert Scott (1811-1878), a prolific English architect of the Victorian age, designed about 800 buildings, including the Albert Memorial.

The hotel is now known as the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, London, and is owned by Manhattan Loft Corporation. The five-star St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, London has instantly become one of the British capital's best-known and most prestigious venues.
