  • (1888PressRelease) November 07, 2011 - HPE Extrusion Solutions, specialists in complex plastic extrusions, is offering extruded custom profiles from various grades of abs plastics for industrial, commercial and institutional applications.

ABS, a combination of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, is a versatile, widely used styrene plastic known for its properties of impact resistance and toughnesss, which are maintained over a wide temperature range. Other properties include excellent stability under load and good chemical resistance. While translucent ivory to white in its raw stage, ABS lends itself readily to coloration.

In contrast to polystyrene, with which it is sometimes compared, ABS is considered superior in hardness, gloss, toughness, and electrical insulation properties.

ABS's light weight and ability to extrude make it useful in manufacturing a wide variety of parts and products for commercial and industrial use, including drain-waste-vent pipe systems, musical instruments, golf club heads, automotive trim and bumper bars, enclosures for electrical and electronic assemblies, protective headgear, whitewater canoes, buffer edging for furniture and joinery panels, luggage and protective carrying cases, small kitchen appliances, and toys.

The ABS grade appropriate for a particular application depends on the service conditions to which the part or product is exposed; the need, for example, for chemical resistance, temperature resistance, flame retardancy, weather resistance or stiffness.

HPE's machines' single screw units range from 3/4" to 2 1/2" which permits extrusions of a wide range of sizes and shapes, including profiles ranging in size from 1/16" to 5" pipe or 10" profile with a virtually unlimited length. Available also are glass-filled ABS profiles.

ABS is just one of the many common and advanced thermoplastics resins that HPE is capable of extruding. Others include flexible and rigid PVC, HDPE and polypropylene; and innovative engineering resins, such as ABS/PVC alloys and difficult-to-run elastomers, such as acetal, Santoprene and nylon.
