- (1888PressRelease) July 07, 2011 - Bangalore, INDIA - HP today announced the launch of Write&Read - a collaborative story-writing program that will be driven by HP's industry-leading imaging and printing technologies to bring young students' imagination to life.
Prolific lyricist, Prasoon Joshi, will join the initiative as a mentor for the students, who will participate in workshops run by Katha, an NGO that brings children living in poverty into reading and quality education. Over the next few months, Write&Read workshops will be rolled out across six cities in India - Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, and Pune - for children aged nine to fourteen.
"Stories have played a key role in education by transmitting values and information across generations. Through the Write&Read program, we hope to enliven the educational experience of writing and reading and make a positive impact in children's education," said Vyomesh Joshi, Executive Vice President, Imaging & Printing Group, HP.
HP will support Write&Read workshops with web-connected printers, which will enable children to interact directly with content on the Web via Print Apps. The low-cost and vibrant color prints from HP Original Ink will enable children to showcase their creations in their best manifestations, thereby igniting and fueling their passion for writing and reading. Children can preserve their epiphanies by capturing a photo of the moment and sending a print job to their home printer from anywhere, anytime, with HP ePrint technology.
"HP's innovative imaging and printing technologies allow for content creation, digitization and consumption anywhere, anytime. Children participating in Write&Read can be empowered by HP's imaging and printing technologies to freely share their ideas and collaborate with other children in creating new stories," said Vyomesh Joshi.
"Writing is a liberating creative process that I hold dear to my heart. I started writing from a young age and published my first book when I was seventeen. I am proud to be part of Write&Read that helps children to discover the joy of writing and reading at a young age. This joy is an invaluable gift that I would like to share with the children of India - our future leaders," said Prasoon Joshi.
"We are excited to collaborate with HP in Write&Read. Katha has always believed that children read and learn best in a print-rich environment and we are sure HP's innovative printing and imaging technologies will make writing and reading fun for children. This will help grow children's interest in learning. We look forward to this collaboration as a first step to a more equitable, secure future for all children," said Geeta Dharmarajan, Founder & Executive Director, Katha.
Write&Read targets to reach out to more than 700 children through its workshops across six cities. Entries can also be sent via ePrint1 to Katha, who will shortlist the entries for final selection by Prasoon Joshi. The final 50 selected stories will be compiled into a book, which will be distributed to local libraries and communities across India.
"Printing is integral to bringing stories to life. We are proud to marry HP's innovative technologies with the expertise of Prasoon Joshi and Katha in enlivening the experience of writing and reading stories for children and grow their interest in learning," added Vyomesh Joshi.
