(1888PressRelease) September 30, 2022 - Atlanta, GA - Lambda HOPE, a new service line of HOPE Recovery Resources meeting the residential and life skills needs of LBGTQ+ individuals, has opened the first two of a nationwide series of sanctuary homes in Raleigh, NC and Richmond, VA. A collaboration between HOPE Recovery Resources and Sherlock’s Homes Foundation, Lambda HOPE offers the long-established supportive environments HOPE Recovery Resources has been known for since 1996. Lambda HOPE’s mission is to create healthy communities by providing homes, recovery support, life skills and a loving support system in a non-binary living environment to adults with mental health, substance use disorders and life skill challenges.

According to the Recovery Research Institute, it is estimated that members of the LGBTQ+ community are 3 times more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol than the population as a whole. LGBTQ+ individuals suffer from higher rates of substance addiction due in part to societally imposed obstacles they face than those who identify as heterosexual. Often, LGBTQ+ individuals will turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with the stress, anxiety and depression resulting from these challenges. Yet, there is a lack of LGBTQ+ recovery resources across the country.

Offering a full spectrum of continuing care recovery services, HOPE’s goal is offer at least one LGBTQ+ sanctuary home in every state.
