HOPE Recovery Resources and Sherlock’s Homes Foundation Collaborate to Expand Access to LGBTQ+ Addiction Recovery and Mental Health Services
HOPE Recovery Resources and Sherlock’s Homes Foundation are committed to helping more LGBTQ+ individuals access personalized addiction recovery and behavioral health services with industry-leading standards of care.
- (1888PressRelease) September 30, 2022 - Atlanta, GA - Lambda HOPE, a new service line of HOPE Recovery Resources meeting the residential and life skills needs of LBGTQ+ individuals, has opened the first two of a nationwide series of sanctuary homes in Raleigh, NC and Richmond, VA. A collaboration between HOPE Recovery Resources and Sherlock’s Homes Foundation, Lambda HOPE offers the long-established supportive environments HOPE Recovery Resources has been known for since 1996. Lambda HOPE’s mission is to create healthy communities by providing homes, recovery support, life skills and a loving support system in a non-binary living environment to adults with mental health, substance use disorders and life skill challenges.
“Together, HOPE Recovery Resources and Sherlock’s Homes Foundation are committed to helping more LGBTQ+ individuals access personalized addiction recovery and behavioral health services with industry-leading standards of care”, said Beth Sanders, CEO of HOPE Recovery Resources.
“Our programs are National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) certified, and in our homes, we promote integrity, ethics, and a family environment. We believe that there are as many pathways to recovery as individuals who seek it, and we best integrate recovery within a community of support. At Lambda HOPE, we offer a different way to bond, where recovery is the common element. We aren’t treatment. We are a safe place to celebrate all that we are.”
According to the Recovery Research Institute, it is estimated that members of the LGBTQ+ community are 3 times more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol than the population as a whole. LGBTQ+ individuals suffer from higher rates of substance addiction due in part to societally imposed obstacles they face than those who identify as heterosexual. Often, LGBTQ+ individuals will turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with the stress, anxiety and depression resulting from these challenges. Yet, there is a lack of LGBTQ+ recovery resources across the country.
“Less than 1% of all recovery facilities offer services specifically tailored to the needs of LGBTQ+ individuals”, said Jacob Reide Jennings, Founder of Sherlock’s Homes Foundation. That is why it is so critically important that we create safe places and eliminate barriers to entry for anyone in the LGBTQ+ community to find recovery help. We are invested in advancing Lambda HOPE’s ability to provide standards-based recovery care to LGBTQ+ communities and to help power true change where it is most needed.”
Offering a full spectrum of continuing care recovery services, HOPE’s goal is offer at least one LGBTQ+ sanctuary home in every state.
