- (1888PressRelease) November 24, 2011 - Hood Technology Corporation (Hood Tech) and is pleased to announce a new milestone: the accumulation of more than 500,000 hours for our camera systems used on board unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Most of those hours represent surveillance for combat operations in war theatres such as Iraq and Afghanistan.
Hood Technology Corp. Vision, Inc. (Hood Tech) designs and manufactures imaging and video processing systems for small tactical UAVs. The Hood Tech systems have served more than 500,000 hours under the rigors not only of combat operations but also in a variety of temperatures, humidity, dust, smoke, haze, and other environmental factors, in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places, demonstrating the reliability and utility of Hood Tech imaging products.
Hood Tech is constantly working to improve performance, weight, and communications with operators and decision-makers. In addition to surveillance, reconnaissance and intelligence-gathering for military operations, the Hood Tech units are designed to support border patrols and other guardians (of ports, power plants, sensitive installations, etc.), weather observations, wildlife monitoring, mineral and other explorations, and urban security and demographics.
Hood Tech continues to develop new and better imaging systems and their associated processing systems, so that military and civilian users alike can rely on accurate and timely information. The Hood Tech systems include both optical and infrared units, operating from platforms that allow full zoom (from two to 56 degrees), pan, tilt, and roll capabilities, all housed in a package that weighs three to six kilograms and measures no more than 30 centimeters (http://www.alticamvision.com/).
Hood Technology (http://www.hoodtech.com/) was founded by Dr. Andy von Flotow in Hood River, Oregon in 1993. In addition to imaging systems for UAVs, Hood Technology develops, tests, and manufactures launch and retrieval systems for a variety of UAVs and monitors blade vibrations in industrial turbines and jet engines, a diagnostic method for predicting possible future failures.
