Hong Kong Updates List of Standards Showing Compliance with Toys and Children’s Products Safety Ordinance
Hong Kong announces revisions to its list of standards that demonstrate compliance to the requirements of the Toys and Children’s Products Safety Ordinance.
- (1888PressRelease) April 23, 2020 - Hong Kong has published an updated list of standards that can be considered as demonstrating compliance with the safety standards specified in Schedules 1 and 2 of the Toys and Children’s Products Safety Ordinance.
Issued on February 21, 2020, the announcement includes:
• 5 standards for toys
• 13 standards for children’s products (that fall under the Ordinance)
The amended list of standards uses international standards or standards adopted by major economies.
The updated list of standards includes:
Toys:
• International:
o ISO 8124-3:2010 (incorporating Amendment 2:2018)
o ISO 8124-4:2014 (incorporating Amendment 2:2019)
• British/European:
o BS EN 71-1:2014+A1:2018
o BS EN 71-3:2019
o BS EN 71-14:2018
Babies’ dummies: BS EN 1400:2013+A2:2018
Baby walking frames: ASTM F977-18
Child safety barriers for domestic use: ASTM F1004-19
Children’s cots for domestic use:
• International:
o ISO 7175-1:2019
o ISO 7175-2:2019
• American: ASTM F1169-19
Children’s highchairs and multi-purpose highchairs for domestic use: ASTM F404-18a
Children’s paints:
• International: ISO 8124-3:2010 (incorporating Amendment 2:2018)
• British/European: BS EN 71-3:2019
Playpens for domestic use: ASTM F406-19
Wheeled child conveyances :
• American: ASTM F833-19
• British/European :
o BS EN 1888-1:2018
o BS EN 1888-2:2018
The amended list of standards was published in the Toys and Children’s Products Safety Ordinance (Amendment of Schedules 1 and 2) Notice 2020 under Number 19 to Legal Supplement Number 2 in the Hong Kong Gazette (Number 8, Volume 24).
The changes will come into effect on October 1, 2020.
