- (1888PressRelease) December 11, 2014 - This Wednesday Honeywell celebrated the opening of a new manufacturing plant in the city of Mexicali, Mexico. This new plant had an investment of around $27 million dollars and will generate 250 new jobs. All of this occurs within the plant's first opening phase. Some of those present in the ceremony were the president of Honeywell Mexico Luis Sanchez, Governor Francisco "Kiko" Vega and Mayor Jaime Díaz Ochoa.
Honeywell is a Fortune 100 company leader in the manufacturing of various technologies, serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services; controlling technologies for construction, home & industry; turbochargers; and performance materials. The company recently received a Silver certification (the highest level of Honeywell certification) for its achievements in employee safety, quality, productivity, delivery times, and other improvements. This new manufacturing plant is 118,000 square feet and will be used for the manufacturing of heat exchangers and other important mechanical components within the aerospace industry.
This construction project is a demonstration of commitment from Honeywell to continue having a long term presence in Mexico, said Luis Sanchez, president of Honeywell Mexico. During the ceremony, he mentioned that "Mexico and the Mexicali campus are essential elements in the manufacturing strategy of Honeywell Aerospace." "We are extremely proud of the work of our employees in Mexicali, which is contributing to the safety and efficiency of commercial flights worldwide."
The new manufacturing plant (known as Plant II) is an extension of the first plant of Mexicali Aerospace, founded in 1979. Currently, Honeywell Aerospace Mexicali has 2,000 employees within its campus, with an expected growth of 2,200 in 2018.
President Luis Sanchez added that "Baja California and Honeywell have forged a strong partnership with benefits to both parties, which has contributed to the growth of our presence in the state." Additionally, we have found that Mexicali offers a wide range of benefits for a company like ours, including access to a motivated and skillful work force, and a strong educational infrastructure that includes various highly qualified universities. These were the factors that convinced us to expand operations here."
The celebration of the opening of this new plant occurs during a historical year for Honeywell Aerospace, because the company celebrates its 100 years in the aviation industry, as well as its 35th anniversary of presence in the aerospace industry in Mexico (which was one of the first international manufacturing operations for Honeywell).
