  • (1888PressRelease) June 08, 2011 - On the Home Staging Business Report, home staging expert Debra Gould discusses why it is critical for home stagers to build websites that are search-engine friendly.

Gould says, "It's difficult to get your website found in the midst of millions of home staging websites out there, and a website built with only beauty in mind will not do anything to help your efforts."

Gould, founder of the Staging Diva Home Staging Business Training Program, explains how common it is for home stagers to hire web designers to build them websites with a nice layout, great colors and stunning photography. However, there is nothing within the infrastructure of these websites to help search engines find them, making them almost completely invisible.

"I can tell when a website is invisible to Google because I take time to review the HTML code. Search engines don't read websites the way humans do. We scan through the text and look at the pretty pictures, but search engines can't see that. In order to determine whether a site is worth going to, search engines have to dig into the code to see if it's relevant to the phrases that people are searching for," Gould explains.

Gould built her first website in 1999 and has continued studying the Internet as it has evolved since then. Ninety percent of Gould's home staging clients find her on the Internet, so she also spends a considerable amount of time and resources learning how search engines work.

"Don't even consider hiring someone to build your home staging website before finding out whether they know how to code the site so that it's visible to Google. Make sure they don't plan to use 'frames' or 'flash,' which will actually make it harder for your site to be found," explains Gould, who provides continuing support to Staging Diva Graduates through the Staging Diva Directory of Home Stagers. She also offers a Home Staging Website CheckUp service for home stagers who build their own sites and need an independent evaluation of how to improve it.

Gould emphasizes, "The purpose of having a home staging website is not so you have a pretty place on the Internet to send your family members as proof that you have a home staging business. The purpose of your website is so that home sellers who are searching for a home stager can find you."
