Holt Brothers Foundation Establishes Grant to Help Children Affected by a Parent's Cancer
The Holt Brothers Foundation, founded by NFL brothers Torry and Terrence Holt to improve the quality of life for children and families dealing with cancer, is proud to announce the formation of the Holt Brothers Butterfly Grant to fund a second week of summer camp for children at Camp Kesem North Carolina.
- (1888PressRelease) March 09, 2013 - (RALEIGH, N.C.) - The camp is dedicated to serving children from the state of North Carolina who have a parent coping with cancer. The Holt's will officially present the $40,000 grant to members of the Camp Kesem national board on Saturday, March 9, 2013 in Chicago, IL at Camp Kesem's annual Gala.
"Having dealt with the loss of a loved one from cancer, my brother and I know firsthand what these young children are dealing with," said Torry Holt, President of the Holt Brothers Foundation. "Camp Kesem is a wonderful place that like the Holt Brothers Foundation offers children the support they need to cope with a parent facing cancer. It was a natural fit for us to partner with them and help afford a second week of camp to these kids."
The Butterfly Grant was named by the Holt's because it represents the perfect transition from Camp Kesem's mascot a caterpillar, which takes two weeks to transform into a butterfly. In addition to providing an extra week of camp for North Carolina children in 2013, the grant will assist other chapters across the country with implementing a second week of programs beginning in 2014. Camp Kesem North Carolina takes place at Keyauwee Program Center near Greensboro, North Carolina each year.
"We are so thrilled the Holt Brothers Foundation has stepped in to help answer the overwhelming demand for our services, supporting children affected by a parent's cancer," said Jane Saccaro, Camp Kesem CEO. "It is estimated there are more than 3 million children living with a parent who has cancer, and far many more have lost a parent to cancer. We have much work to do to serve all those in need, and this partnership is an amazing step toward helping us close that gap."

Since its establishment in 2000, Camp Kesem has provided over 5,000 children ages 6-16 with free, college student run camps, offering the chance to escape from reality and an opportunity to just be kids. Across the country at 41 college campuses, campers enjoy activities such as sports, arts and crafts, drama, and nature exploration.
