  • (1888PressRelease) February 07, 2013 - Every year, Hollywood pays due respect to the talented people working in the film industry by way of the Academy Awards, more commonly known by many as the Oscars. This year, the nominees comprise a lot of well-known celebrities headlining blockbuster films and promising newcomers in independent filmmaking. This is why prior to the main event, where everyone will be waiting with bated breath as to who will walk away with the iconic golden statuette, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) throws their annual nominees luncheon to establish a friendly rapport between all of the recognised men and women whose efforts in their respective films gained critical acclaim from the past year.

The 32nd annual Academy Awards Luncheon, held at the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel, saw a multitude of stars gracing the venue with their presence. The event saw thespians rubbing shoulders with screenwriters, composers greeting sound engineers, and many other nominated film professionals from different branches that comprise the AMPAS. Apart from the actual luncheon itself-where the Oscar nominees dined on an exquisite fine-dining menu and entertained with an in-house DJ-the event consisted of a compressed press conference, where journalists and reporters were only allowed three questions to ask each nominee called to the podium in alphabetical order.

The spotlight shone bright on the actors and actresses present for the luncheon, where the audience applause proved to be an indicative barometer of the star's current value in the industry. By far, the loudest ovation came from the youngest Best Actress nominee in Oscar history-9-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis for "Beasts of the Southern Wild"-as she took her turn on the stage to greet the invited press members present. Other celebrities who also made a strong impact like Wallis, included Jennifer Lawrence (Best Actress for "Silver Linings Playbook"), Anne Hathaway (Best Supporting Actress for "Les Misérables"), and director Kathryn Bigelow (Best Picture for "Zero Dark Thirty").

However, not everyone from the Oscar Class of 2013 made an appearance at the luncheon, as Best Original Song nominee Adele (for "Skyfall") was not present, so as 85-year-old French Best Actress nominee Emmanuelle Riva (for "Amour"). The luncheon also upheld a unique tradition where the Academy hands over a special certificate to the nominees present, along with a custom sweatshirt printed with the current design theme of year's Oscar ceremony.

The 85th Academy Awards ceremony will be broadcast live worldwide and held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California on February 24, 2013. The event will be hosted by American actor and comedian, Seth MacFarlane.
