Hollywood Glamors meets Hawaiian Fun at 15th Maui Film Festival
Thousands gathered last June 4-8, 2014 for the 15th Maui Film Festival in Wailea. Hollywood stars such as Emma Roberts, Lupita Nyong'o, and Evan Rachel Wood were spotted on the event.
- (1888PressRelease) August 06, 2014 - Thousands gathered for the much-anticipated 15th Maui Film Festival last June 4-8, 2014 in Wailea, which saw Hollywood Top-caliber Hollywood stars Lupita Nyong'o, Emma Roberts, Joe Manganiello, Shep Gordon, and Evan Rachel Wood bring a touch of Hollywood glamour to the Aloha State.
Boasting of a one-of-a-kind movie experience, the Maui Film Festival held screenings at the Celestial Cinema located at the Wailea Gold and Emerald Golf Course, the Castle Theater at the state-of-the-art Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului, the Seaside Cinema Music Cafe & Sunset Lounge at the Grand Wailea, and the Toes in the Sand Cinema located between the Grand Wailea and the Four Seasons Maui.
Buzzworthy films including Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon, Adrift, Fortune House, XOXO, Thundercloud, The Skeleton Twins, and Begin Again were shown in picturesque venues which treated attendees to the stunning view of verdant golf courses and the panoramic beaches of Wailea. At night, these places turned into a cinema-under-the-stars that are only steps away from the best accommodations in Maui, Hawaii.
Aside from the film screenings, the Maui Film Festival featured awards ceremonies for heartwarming films and inspiring filmmakers, and culinary and cultural events that celebrate life in Maui.
Lupita Nyong'o received the 2014 Maui Film Festival's Rainmaker Award, in honor of her "eclectic choices and charismatic performances encourage us all to expand our definition of what it means to be human," especially in the Oscar-winning film 12 Years a Slave by Steve McQueen. Shep Gordon was presented the Maverick Award which honors individuals "who has courage of their convictions and spares no effort to do the right thing to help those whose life's work inspires him" while Joe Mangianello was handed the Triple Threat award for brilliantly juggling roles as director, actor, producer for narrative and documentary projects.
For her part, Emma Roberts bagged the Shining Star Award for "daring to dream big dreams and delivering brilliantly charismatic and revelatory performances every time that opportunity knocks." Finally, Evan Rachel Wood, star of the Mildred Pierce and True Blood series brought home the Nova Award, reserved for stars who deliver "astonishingly original and seamless performances, and the way they consistently infuse each character that they embody with insight, humanity and wisdom."
