Holiday Picture Book about Santa is Full of Magic and Wins the 2015 KSRA Award
The warmth and wonder of the Christmas season are newly revealed in the imaginative full-color children's Christmas picture book called On this Christmas Eve Night written by Award-winning Author Alicia Lloyd and illustrated by Amy Rottinger.
- (1888PressRelease) October 24, 2015 - Philadelphia, PA -- Christmas is a fun, magical time for kids of all ages. It is a holiday to share family traditions and bring loved ones close. "I just love Christmas," shares Lloyd. "I adore this fun, magical time of the year. It is a holiday for all ages, families, and traditions."
In On this Christmas Eve Night, Santa is busy checking his list to make sure he did not miss a single present for the good boys and girls all around the world. However, children are asked the question, "What does Santa's checklist look like before he speeds over the rooftops on Christmas Eve night?" As readers sit down to find the answer to this question, they learn valuable lessons, traditions from Lloyd's childhood and much more. Children also will find fun activities in the back of the book to add to their holiday traditions, too.
"The magic of Christmas is what makes the holiday atmosphere," says Lloyd, who still believes in Santa Clause.
A lot of what Santa does in the story comes from Alicia's childhood and traditions her family shared with her as a young girl. The activities in the back of the book are easy for children and are still traditions in her home today. "I wanted to make sure my audience got excited for Christmas while reading this book," shares Lloyd.
Educators will find that this picture book has repetitive learning. Alicia did want to make Christmas fun but in a way that still teaches literacy with holiday sprite.
"This is a fun-filled and warm-hearted Christmas story," says Halo Publisher Lisa M. Umina. "Beautifully illustrated, children of all ages will embrace the story and have fun learning about Santa's busiest night of the year. On this Christmas Eve Night is a great addition to any treasured children's book collection."
Alicia's first book, When the Monsters are Quiet, is the winner of the 2015 Keystone to Reading Elementary Book Award. The purpose of the award is to stimulate interest in reading for students from Preschool to Grade 6 and expose them to quality literature. Each year the committee prepares three lists, one for preschool students, one for primary students in grades K-3, and one for intermediate students in grades 4-6. Teachers read the nominated books to their students from the appropriate lists. Last March, the students voted for their favorite book, and the winners are honored at the Book and Author Luncheon at the annual KSRA Conference in October 2015.
