  • (1888PressRelease) November 07, 2013 - Victor Mooney of Queens and his twenty-four foot Brazilian made ocean rowboat "the Spirit of Malabo" completes circumvention of Long Island in preparation for his fourth bid to cross the Atlantic Ocean.

Mr. Mooney arrived last night at the Gateway Marina. The rower began his on water training in August from SUNY Maritime College. The final leg of Mr. Mooney's sea trials had him departing from Jackson's Marina in Hampton Bays last Tuesday.

"Having the boat in the water was a huge advantage. The Spirit of Malabo and I have become closer due to this training", Mr. Mooney said.

Later this year, Mr. Mooney will depart from Las Palmas, Canary Islands and row five-thousand miles back to New York with a resupply in the British Virgin Islands. The rower has lost one brother to AIDS and has another battling the disease. Mr. Mooney hopes his row will encourage HIV testing.

Mr. Mooney is now preparing to ship the Spirit of Malabo to the Canary Islands via Maersk Line.
