- Baltimore, MD (1888PressRelease) November 21, 2013 - Designed and completed in the 1860's, the Gatehouse, which has graced the Charles Street entrance to the Sheppard Pratt Health System (SPHS) campus since its inception, is recognized for its rich history and iconic stature in the mental health community. SPHS is pleased to announce the restoration of the 153-year-old Gatehouse entrance lodge with an official ceremony and reveal to be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2013, outside the Gatehouse's renowned structure on the Towson campus.

Among its restorations include returning the exterior to its original, historic condition and renovating the interior to serve as a guesthouse for many of the Health System's esteemed guests, lecturers, traveling applicants and consultants.
"Preserving the history of Sheppard Pratt and fulfilling the vision of founder Moses Sheppard to provide quality care to individuals with mental illness, is of the utmost importance to our Health System," said Dr. Steven S. Sharfstein, president and chief executive officer of Sheppard Pratt. "As the first visual representation of our campus, we are elated to reveal the restored Gatehouse and are proud as it continues to welcome everyone who enters our campus."
