Hindi Bee for the first time ever in San Francisco Bay Area
US Hindi Association has organized a unique competition called "Jano Hindi Bee" for the first time ever. It will be held in Milpitas, CA on March 24, 2012.
Jano Hindi Bee is organized with the sole purpose of vocabulary development among students of its Hindi language classes. There are more than 700 students who are involved in Hindi language learning in SF Bay Area, through USHA.
- San Jose, CA (1888PressRelease) March 06, 2012 - US Hindi Association is organizing the first ever "Hindi Bee" in SF Bay Area on March 24, 2012. The Hindi Vocabulary Competition which will be held in Milpitas, California, is called as "Jano Hindi Bee". It is a first ever Hindi Bee to be held worldwide in Hindi language, and is open for students that are enrolled in the Hindi language classes held by US Hindi Association all over SF bay area.
Most of us are familiar with English Spelling Bee. Some of us might know the French, German and Spanish Bee that happen in UK, but there has never been a Hindi language Bee. US Hindi Association (USHA) has organized a Hindi language Bee, named as Jano Hindi Bee ("Jano" means Know in Hindi). Open for students enrolled in their Hindi language classes, the Bee is meant to encourage language learning and increase vocabulary among them. USHA is active in the SF Bay Area for more than 6 years in the field of Hindi language teaching. It holds afterschool and week end classes in more than 50 locations for school going children as well as adults. As a way to improve vocabulary and give a little competitive edge, the USHA team came up with the idea of a "Hindi Bee", says the director Ms. Ruchita Parat. Although all the other spelling bees concentrate on telling the spelling of a word, the Jano Hindi Bee will be a competition that will ask for meaning of Hindi words in English and making sentences using them. There are more than 700 children who are taking advantage of the Hindi language classes. The children learned a list of few hundred words along with the meaning. There are three rounds for the competition. A class round is being held in each class room and the winners will be going to the Semi-final round, where they will compete with students from all over Bay Area. The final round will choose the champions. Ms. Parat says, the enthusiasm is tremendous among the students as well as the parents. We are overwhelmed with the response and children are working very hard, in spite of their busy school schedules. They are very eager to learn and compete. We believe we are going to have a very tough competition.
India is a very diverse country and there are 22 official Indian languages and many more local languages. The USHA student body consists of students coming from various language backgrounds, many of them not using Hindi language at home. The Jano Hindi Bee has tried to find a common ground and hence the competition is for the English meaning of Hindi words.
The Semi-finals and Finals of "Jano Hindi Bee" will be held on March 24, 2012 in Milpitas in the Jain Center of Northern California at 722 S. Main Street, Milpitas, CA 95035 between 2.00 pm - 6 pm.
The event is free and open for USHA students and their families.
