- (1888PressRelease) November 13, 2010 - Raleigh-Durham, NC: Hillandale Golf Course and its H.E.A.R.T.S. Club program announced open registration for the third annual Black Friday Golf Tournament. The tournament will be played at Hillandale Golf Course in Durham, NC 0n Friday November 26, 2010. The format is a 4-man captain's choice that begins with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. The registration fee is $75.00 per player and all proceeds benefit the Duke Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Program.
The purpose of the Hillandale Golf Course H.E.A.R.T.S. Club program is to provide an environment for the children and families to enjoy the outdoors and play a wonderful game together. It is estimated that the success rate of life for these children is at 65% meaning more than 3 of every 10 children will be victims of their disease. The transplant unit at Duke Hospital completes approximately 100 transplants annually and is a last effort to save the child's life. Without the transplant the child will die within a year. The H.E.A.R.T.S. Club allows the family to be together in an enriching environment where they can get away from the dreaded experiences of their child's disease and recharge to fight the good fight.
"Our H.E.A.R.T.S. Club program is very important to Hillandale Golf Course" stated Fran James, LPGA. "Every member of the Hillandale staff cares deeply about supporting the Durham community and this program is a critical part of that effort. Our annual Black Friday Tournament allows us to bring joy to the families and give them a break from the rigors of treatment at Duke. If you can come out and play on Black Friday you will have a great time while supporting a great cause. What an excellent way to start the holiday season."
Due to the weakened immune systems due to treatments the children cannot be around large groups of people. Golf offers them a wonderful escape and experience. This program gives the children something very positive to look forward to. In addition, the H.E.A.R.T.S. Club hope to give the Duke Pediatric children a complete set of golf clubs in order that they may continue their journey in golf once they return home. And of course there is absolutely no cost to the families and caregivers when they use the golf course. Hillandale Golf Course just wants to help them on this journey.
