Highlights for Automotive and Transportation Coatings and Industrial Coatings at the European Coatings Show
One portfolio for demanding surfaces.
- (1888PressRelease) February 28, 2011 - With its broad product portfolio BASF offers solutions for demanding surfaces from one hand to the automotive and transportation coatings industry. The comprehensive product offer of pigments, resins and additives also makes BASF a dedicated one-stop-shop supplier to the industrial coatings industry. At the European Coatings Show (March 29-31) in Nuremberg, Germany, BASF will present its broad range of established products and technologies for both industries as well as launch new products ( booth 411 in hall 7A) .
Automotive and Transportation Coatings
Manufacturers of automotive and transportation coatings demand the highest quality standards. With its products BASF helps to meet those requirements. Beyond that, innovations from BASF help the customers to be even more successful.
Basonat® LR 9082
With Basonat® LR 9082 BASF will introduce a new highly functional polyisocyanate that allows faster handling of the coated substrate. Basonat® LR 9082 was developed for solvent-based applications and combines fast drying with fast hardness development. It is suitable for coating metal in the areas of automotive, industrial, furniture and flooring applications.
Tinuvin® Carboprotect®
BASF will also highlight its light stabilizer Tinuvin® Carboprotect® which was developed to stabilize carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics, making it possible to visibly display the embedded carbon fibers. Carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics are used as building elements, for example, in aerospace or automotive applications. Tinuvin® Carboprotect® blocks the destructive radiation from UV and near-UV visible light and keeps the matrix intact. This allows customers, besides benefiting from the excellent mechanical properties, to also utilize the high aesthetical value of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics for design purposes.
Paliocrom® Brilliant Orange and Gold
In Nuremberg, BASF will launch Paliocrom® Brilliant Gold, the newest effect pigment in the Paliocrom® Brilliant product family. Paliocrom® Brilliant Gold is the second member of the range, after Paliocrom® Brilliant Orange L 2850 (launched in February 2010), which itself offers improved brilliance, sparkle, chroma and lightness over Paliocrom® Orange. Thanks to the tremendously high chroma and lightness, Paliocrom® Brilliant Gold will enable designers to create eye-catching effects and to better differentiate their products in an increasingly competitive market. Paliocrom® Brilliant Gold’s performance makes it specially recommended for use in high-quality automotive finishes, industrial paints and coatings for computers, communications devices and consumer goods.
Lumina® Royal Blue
Lumina® Royal Blue is a new intense red-shade blue interference pigment which allows reduced amounts of pigment in standard effect shades, thereby improving the physical properties of the coating without sacrificing the overall interference effect. Lumina® Royal Blue is the first high-chromaticity effect pigment being launched as part of BASF’s extension to the Lumina® effect pigment portfolio. This new effect pigment offers the highest color strength, brightness, brilliancy and chromaticity of any blue pigment currently available, opening up a world of new possibilities for vibrant and luxurious surfaces.
Heliogen® Blue L 6600 F
Heliogen® Blue L 6600 F is the latest development in the world of blue Heliogen® pigments. Heliogen® Blue L 6600 F is a Pigment Blue 15:6 copper phthalocyanine blue (ε-phase) pigment with enhanced coloristic performance and excellent secondary properties. Its excellent color strength leads to improved economy in application: less pigment is needed which leads to higher cost effectiveness. The pigment is a member of the "neutral flop" blue series. The neutral color flop allows styling trends with limited color shift when viewed from different angels.
Functional pigments for solar heat management
As a further highlight of its pigment portfolio BASF will showcase stylings for automotive applications based on its solar heat management techniques which prevent heat build-up in cars and other transportation. Solar heat management pigments – such as Paliogen® Black – are valuable in reducing heat build-up on dark-colored surfaces and coatings. Thanks to BASF’s experience in this technology, BASF can cooperate with its customers to determine the most suitable pigmentation to create coolness properties for any given color and substrate.
Industrial Coatings
The industrial coatings industry is one of the most diverse that BASF serves. With its broad product range BASF can meet all requirements of this industry, adding functional and aesthetic value to industrial coatings.
Basonat® LR 9080
With Basonat® LR 9080 BASF will launch a new water-based fast-drying polyisocyanate for mainly general industrial and wood coatings which allows faster handling of the coated substrate.
Efka® Formulation Additives
In Nuremberg, BASF will also highlight its Efka® range of formulation additives. The Efka® 4300, Efka® 4330 and Efka® 4340 dispersing agents, combined with Laropal® A 81, a grinding resin for solvent-based applications, result in high color strength. Efka® 4585 is a high-molecular-weight dispersant for high-performance water-based coatings that allows for a low mill base viscosity. It can be used with a wide range of pigments. An excellent performance makes it the new benchmark for carbon black in the market. The Efka® 2580 defoamer is characterized by a good activity / compatibility balance and can be used at letdown stage or as post addition.
Acronal® PRO 80
Further, BASF will feature Acronal® PRO 80, a modified acrylic dispersion for metal primers. Acronal® PRO 80 does not only offer high-performance corrosion protection but is also APEO free and with its lower solvent demand a green alternative to solvent-based counterparts such as alkyd systems.
Pigments for lead-free formulations
At the ECS, BASF will also present its unique portfolio of pigments allowing lead-free formulations for the general industrial coatings industry. Within its Paliotol®, Sicopal®, Sicotan®, Irgazin® and T-Shade™ product range, BASF offers a broad portfolio of organic and inorganic pigments to fulfill the requirements of new legislation (e.g., REACH).
Industrial coatings focused pigment range
With the combined portfolios of the former Ciba and BASF, the company is now in a position to offer pigments to customers without chemistry bias and meet the complete needs of the customers for color space with a fit for purpose value proposition designed specifically for industrial coatings. The new combined portfolio offers in addition functional pigments for energy conservation as well as a broad color palette to provide aesthetic appeal, both from the primary pigment through to effect pigments.
