HHHunt Homes Sponsors "Help Shred Hunger for Children" Benefiting Virginia Peninsula Foodbank
Mid-Atlantic homebuilding industry leader partners with renowned realty company to help eradicate child hunger.
- (1888PressRelease) October 07, 2011 - Williamsburg, VA - As title sponsor of Prudential Towne Realty's recent community involvement event, "Help Shred Hunger For Children," HHHunt Homes partnered with the renowned realty company to help eradicate child hunger. Proceeds from the event - a document-shredding fundraiser netting $3,140 (including company-matched funds) - were donated to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank's Backpack Program.
From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 17th, representatives from HHHunt Homes and Prudential Towne Realty braved poor weather conditions to collect documents to be shredded for a nominal fee. From small stacks to large bundles, local businesses and citizens were encouraged to bring their paper documents and other "shredables" to the TowneBank parking lot located within New Town. Shred-It - provider of the most secure and efficient, confidential information destruction service in the industry - performed all shredding services.
Funds raised during the "Help Shred Hunger For Children" event will be presented to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and earmarked for food purchases for its annual Backpack Program. Event participants also offered donations, as well as purchased raffle tickets for a new Apple iPad, courtesy of HHHunt Homes.
"Through the generosity of our Hampton Roads homebuyers, local businesses and our citizens, we can help bring relief to those who regularly experience hunger," said Amber King, regional marketing director for HHHunt Homes. "This is a tremendously important issue. You never know when disaster will strike or an unforeseen event will change your circumstance. The "Help Shred Hunger For Children" event was a great way to help stock the foodbank shelves by cleaning off your office shelves. We truly thank and appreciate everyone who overlooked the cold and rain to support this initiative."
The Virginia Peninsula Foodbank's Backpack Program was created to break the cycle of hunger and food insecurity for children in low-income communities. It serves to provide them with healthy, nutritious food that is easy-to-prepare; and available to take home on weekends or extended holidays throughout the school year, when other resources are not available.
With the assistance of foodbank volunteers such as the Prudential Towne Realty team, backpacks are filled with food and distributed to children weekly, from the beginning of September to the end of May. Presently, and for 30 weeks of the school year, the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank serves 1,235 students each week and 37,050 students per academic year. The foodbank proudly serves 21 "Backpack" sites.
"We understand the importance and value of giving back to the community, which is why we actively support the efforts of our local non-profit organizations," King said. "They deserve our heartfelt respect and thanks for their continued hard work, which benefits us all."
The Virginia Peninsula Foodbank is located at 2401 Aluminum Avenue in Hampton. For more information about the Backpack Program or other programs and services, please call (757) 596-7188 or visit www.HRFoodbank.org.
