The Annual Drug-Free Heroes Awards Banquet will be held at the historic Fort Harrison on Saturday, April 27th.
- Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) April 11, 2024 - With a decrease in drug and alcohol abuse in teens, the Foundation for a Drug-Free World Florida Chapter has much to celebrate as they acknowledge those who are making strides in the battle against drug abuse and drug addiction at their annual banquet on Saturday, April 27th.
The annual Drug-Free Heroes Awards Banquet will begin at 5:30pm and includes a complimentary buffet dinner and live entertainment. The event is being held at the Fort Harrison, the international religious retreat for the Church of Scientology. There is no cost to attend, but attendees must RSVP to be included on the guest list.
“The Florida Department of Children and Families has surveyed students annually since 2000,” said Stephanie Klimke, the Executive Director for the Foundation for a Drug-Free World Florida Chapter. “In 2022, the results show that less kids are drinking alcohol and they are passing on their attitudes to their peers – 96% of the students surveyed disapprove of their peers using drugs.”
“Working together with law enforcement, educators, community leaders, churches and parent groups, we are making a difference in the lives of young people,” said Klimke. “In collaboration, we have distributed over 100,000 Truth About Drugs booklets in the last year – almost 2.6 million educational materials since 2015.”
The Foundation’s materials include drug education booklets, public service announcements and a feature-length documentary where former addicts vividly describe the drugs they were addicted to, how their addictions crippled their lives and how they were able to get the help they needed.
“A survey by the American Addiction Centers showed that the two most effective ways to steer kids clear of drugs is to teach them about the possible dangers of drug use as well as hearing testimonials from former addicts – these two principles are the core of the Truth About Drugs program,” said Klimke.
Those being acknowledged on April the 27th have utilized the Drug-Free World program to help educate people so that they are steered away from drug abuse.

ABOUT DRUG FREE WORLD
The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a nonprofit public benefit corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free. Through a worldwide network of volunteers, 50 million of drug prevention booklets have been distributed, tens of thousands of drug awareness events have been held in some 180 countries and Truth About Drugs public service announcements have been aired on more than 500 television stations. These materials and activities have helped people around the world learn about the destructive side effects of drugs and thereby make the decision for themselves to not use them.
Scientology founder and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “Research has demonstrated that the single most destructive element present in our current culture is drugs.” Mr. Hubbard’s research in this field brought unparalleled drug rehabilitation solutions to the world. This, in turn, galvanized the Church and Scientologists to initiate the Truth About Drugs, a secular program through which they have worked with like-minded organizations for more than two decades to empower the millions with the truth about drugs.
