Heritage 2011 Conference Addresses Heritage Preservation Opportunities and Challenges in the Arab Region and Globally

DMACH 2011 theme is "Digital Media and its Applications in Cultural Heritage". The Joint conference aims to provide the participants an occasion to share and exchange experiences and research finding.
- (1888PressRelease) March 03, 2011 - Scholars from around the world will assemble in Amman, March 13-15, 201 to attend Heritage 2011 and DMACH 20011 conferences which are co-organized by Al-Turath Foundation, Saudi Arabia in collaboration with The Center for the Study of Architecture in the Arab Region, and Queen Rania Institute of Tourism and Heritage, Hashemite University, Jordan.
Heritage 2011 conference theme is "Conservation of Architecture, Urban Areas, Nature & Landscape". The conference addresses issues related to architecture and urban heritage and how to conserve it. DMACH 2011 theme is "Digital Media and its Applications in Cultural Heritage". The Joint conference aims to provide the participants an occasion to share and exchange experiences and research findings, to stimulate more ideas and useful insights regarding heritage preservation, conservation and the uses of digital media in cultural heritage, and to debate their views on future research and developments regarding challenges facing heritage preservation in the Arab region.
The two conferences bring together scholars and practitioners in architecture, planning, archaeology, and related fields from all over the world to discuss issues related to heritage movement in the Arab region and abroad. "This is a significant and timely congress," noted Dr Osama Al-Gohari, the Director General of Al-Turath Foundation in Saudi Arabia. "Amidst the euphoria to build and grow, we do not have much opportunities to step back and reflect on the consequences of these practices on our environment and heritage. The Joint conference is meant to do that." The conference is expected to conclude with important outcome that can help shape the discourse and practice of heritage conservation in the Arab world.
Over one hundred twenty papers will be presented in this joint conference. The scientific committee that supervised this conference consists of over 100 scholars from all over the world. Conference co-chair Dr Jamal Al-Qawasmi, and director of The Center for the Study of Architecture in the Arab Region, has pointed out that "Over 300 professionals are expected to attend the event." He added that event is supported by several local, regional and international organizations such Greater Amman Municipality, Jordan Engineers Association, Jordanian Architects Society, Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities from Jordan; Ministry of Culture, Al-Turath Foundation and Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities from Saudi Arabia, French Institute for the Near East, American Center of Oriental Research, INTBAU from united Kingdom, and The Egyptian Cultural Heritage Organization, Egypt.
Dr Osama Al-Gohari, the Director-General of Al-Turath Foundation in Saudi Arabia, has expressed the support of His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul-Aziz, the President of the Al-Turath Foundation and the President of Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, for this Joint conference. Al-Turath Foundation support for this event expresses its clear commitment towards preserving the Arab and Islamic heritage in the region and achieving quality and innovation in this field.
Dr Al-Qawasmi pointed that Al-Turath Foundation is committed to support the heritage preservation movement, not in Saudi Arabia but in the whole Arab region. . "Our partnership with Al-Turath Foundation will make this international conference the premier event dedicated to heritage preservation movement in the region" said Dr Al-Qawasmi.
