  • Houston, TX (1888PressRelease) April 14, 2011 - On Saturday, April 9th, HelpingaHero.org will award its 30th home to Specialist Hunter LeVine, USA (Ret.) who while driving a Humvee back from a mission in Iraq was hit by an EFP. Due to his quick thinking and with the help of a radio operator, Hunter was able to continue driving straight to a medical unit despite losing both of his eyes. He endured countless surgeries in Balad, Iraq, then in Landstuhl, Germany. His first reconstructive surgery stateside lasted 23 hours. Due to the EFP blast, Hunter lost both eyes, has extensive scarring on his face and nose and is missing several teeth. He still awaits dental implants to replace his lost teeth and additional reconstructive surgeries to make his face more normal. He suffers from a Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. For his service in Iraq, Specialist LeVine was awarded the Purple Heart for his sacrifice for our freedom and numerous other medals and awards.

HelpingaHero.org is very proud of its partnership with Spark Energy who has donated one year of free electricity to its last 7 home recipients.

Ampegy will be the lead donor for the home for Specialist LeVine by donating $10,000. Also, Ampegy will provide one year of free electricity for the completed home through Spark Energy.

"Specialist Hunter LeVine is a true American hero. He has battled back from a near fatal injury and has endured so much on his road to recovery. We count it an honor to help this young hero begin a new life in a brand new home where his ability to live independently will be maximized. We are very grateful to Ampegy for providing the lead donation for this home. And we invite the community to donate to this home so we are able to begin building in the near future. We also want to thank the Woodlands Development Corporation for donating a lot for this new home." Meredith Iler, National Chairman, HelpingaHero.org.
