With the pressure in Palestine rising, through the innovative use of crowdfunding on Indiegogo.com, Sheena is attempting to raise the necessary funds for her trip to the West Bank in her Project Hope campaign on Indiegogo.com.
(1888PressRelease) August 24, 2014 - We as Americans pride ourselves as a nation of people who like to make a difference, to help those who are in need. As the war in Gaza between Hamas and Israel grinds on, suddenly that opportunity to make a difference in someone's life has presented itself. As a result of the destructiveness of the war in Gaza, many Palestinian men, women, and children have lost their homes and livelihoods, forced to live in the poor conditions of a refugee camp. Sheena Moleta of Mississippi is attempting to make that difference by traveling to the West Bank to volunteer in one of these many refugee camps, but she needs help.
Through the innovative use of crowdfunding on Indiegogo.com, Sheena is attempting to raise the necessary funds to make her humanitarian trip to the West Bank. Every penny counts and all the proceeds will go towards Sheena's mission to alleviate the suffering of those who have been caught in this tragic ideological war. We as Americans live in a nation of great opulence and opportunity. We also have the feeling that we are safe in our homes, that the we will see the next day, that our needs are provided. The people in Gaza do not have this luxury and we as Americans can make their lives just a little bit better with our charity and good deeds.
Although the war in Gaza has been relatively brief, the destruction has been widespread and the casualties have been high. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, over 2,000 Gazans have been killed with over 80% of them being innocent civilians. In addition, over 520,000 people (over 30% percent of the entire population) have been displaced or lost their homes. Over 1.5 million people have limited or no access to water. On top of that, many medical facilities have been destroyed and the ones that remain are understaffed, over 18,000 homes have been completely destroyed and around 30,000 have been severely damaged. Thousands of Israelis have also been displaced as a result of the fighting. With these numbers, we see the scale of the humanitarian crisis that is occurring in Gaza, and people like Sheena are desperately needed to alleviate their suffering.
Regardless of political orientation or where you stand with this conflict, we are all human beings and innocent people deserve to be afforded their basic needs.
Donate to Project Hope and help Sheena make a difference.
