- (1888PressRelease) February 25, 2021 - Dr. Polly Heil-Mealey has been recognized by Heartrepreneur® LLC with its annual International Heartrepreneur® of the Year 2021 recognition.
This award recognizes individuals who run their lives and businesses with heart – authentically and transparently with the objective of helping others achieve their goals. Dr. Polly Heil-Mealey was selected from dozens of nominees from around the world. Dr. Polly began her professional career in 1979 as an administrative assistant for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. In caring for the various consultants in her group, she learned the value of caring for the people she supported.
In 1991 she started teaching English in a local parochial school. She developed the English program for Channelview Christian School, now known as Family Christian Academy.
In 1998, her husband was diagnosed with Cancer. She says: “We had no idea that there were any viable alternatives to what MD Anderson recommended.” In 1999, after several rounds of radiation, he died. This turn of events led her to study natural medicine. While she was studying natural medicine, she continued her career as principal of a small private school for at risk students. This school was the last hope for parents whose children had lost their way through drug and alcohol abuse, violence, and truancy. Her only rule for the school was that all participants, students and faculty would treat each other with respect. This was the first time she saw the power of a heart-centered approach change the outcomes for many students.
In 2004, she began to practice as an iridologist, again, bringing heart-centered healing to her community. She served as President of the International Iridology Practitioners Association 2010-2012, Immediate Past President, 2013-2014 She went on to study holistic health at Clayton College of Natural Health, and bio-energetic medicine at the Academy of International Bio-energetic Sciences in Canada. She and her husband purchased Abundant Health and Wellness Center in 2010 where she continues to practice.
She was a semi-finalist in Small Business of the Year in 2015. In 2018, she was awarded Physician of the Year by the Lake Houston Chamber of Commerce, now known as the Lake Houston Partnership. In 2019, they were awarded the Small Business of the year, Veteran Owned by the Small Business Administration in partnership with Lone Star College.
She volunteers her time on the Board of Directors for the Lake Houston Partnership, and the Humble Beautification Committee. Abundant Health and Wellness supports the work of orphanages both in Kenya and Thailand. She has served in various capacities within the local church mentoring women of all ages.
