- (1888PressRelease) September 09, 2010 - WASHINGTON, DC - A new multi-year wellness grant provides employers up to $335 per employee and spouse per year for ten years to help identify and mitigate behavioral and lifestyle risk factors. Eligible employers receive a comprehensive program for their employees and spouses including an annual battery of health screens, a face-to-face consultation with a Corporate Health Coach to identify the risks and create an action plan to mitigate and eliminate those risk factors, on-going access to one-on-one coaching, weekly small group classes, and monthly on-site education.
The grant addresses an individual holistically, considering their physical, mental/emotional, and financial/legal risks. A comprehensive panel of health screens is offered initially with an emphasis on identifying and reducing the incidence of heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes. "A proactive benefit plan should be designed to identify and mitigate the behavioral and lifestyle risk factors that fuel medical claims, absenteeism, and loss of productivity", reports Madison McClelland, Vice President of Community Outreach of the Healthy People Grant, Inc.
The grant covers 100% of a number of screens and diagnostics including common bio-metrics such as a body fat percentage analysis and a blood pressure screening. Additionally, it covers 50% of a lipid profile, a glucose screening, and an innovative non-invasive cardiovascular screening for the heart and arteries. Additionally, it covers 100% of the one-on-one consultation with a local Corporate Health Coach, the employer's Aggregate Report, and monthly Wellness Workshops held on-site of the employer.
"Many employees simply fail to connect the dots when it comes to indulgence in certain behaviors and the future onset of disease", added McClelland. "For example, we've found that about four percent of the populations we've tested have been diagnosed with diabetes. Another four percent have diabetes but are undiagnosed and are not properly managing the disease leading to kidney failure, blindness, serious skin infections, gangrene, cardiovascular disease, birth defects, stroke, disability and death. Even more alarming is that we are finding another eight to ten percent who are pre-diabetic and will develop Type-2 diabetes if they don't quickly change their lifestyle habits."
Employers interested in being considered for the Grant should complete a brief assessment located on www.healthypeople2010grant.org/employerresources. Thereafter, a Consultant will contact the employer to determine if there is a "fit". If so, the employer simply completes the Grant Participation Agreement and faxes it to 214-291-5845 to enroll in the Grant.
Communities, organizations, employers, health & wellness professionals and individuals interested in participating should contact Madison McClelland @ 800-429-4556, visit www.healthypeople2010grant.org or email getinvolved ( @ ) healthypeople2010grant dot org.
