  • (1888PressRelease) September 11, 2011 - CHICAGO/ NEW YORK - Founded in 1985 the Harvard Journal of Hispanic Policy (HJHP) is an annual graduate student-run, non-partisan review that publishes interdisciplinary works on politics and policy-making as these topics affect the Latino community in the United States. Its mission is to serve as a resource to policy analysts and advocates in public, private and non-profit organizations; provide a forum for scholarship and publication on issues related to the U.S. Latino community's political, social and economic development; provide experience to future policy analysts and advocates; and develop interest in Latino issues. The Harvard Journal of Hispanic Policy is published by the John F. Kennedy School of Government (Harvard Kennedy School) at Harvard University.

    Over the last 19 years, Polanco has built a specialized consulting practice focused on helping non-profit agencies create and maintain effective fiscal systems and policies, cost-efficient technology systems, and a human resource infrastructure that supports their program, fiscal and operating demands. In 2007, she spearheaded the creation and launch of the FMA Institute in order to address a critical need for the professional development of finance leaders in the non-profit sector. The Institute serves non-profits nationwide with internet-based courses as well as in-person customized workshops.

    A recognized expert in the independent sector, she has been invited by the New York Times Company to serve on the selection committee for the NYT Nonprofit Excellence Awards since their inception in 2007. She is a sought-after instructor, serving as an adjunct professor in Columbia University's Department of Health Policy and Management, as well as on faculty with the Chicago Donors Forum. Additionally, she regularly conducts fiscal workshops for Columbia's Institute for Not-for-Profit Management and was the keynote speaker at Chicago's 2010 Donors Forum and Citi Foundation Nonprofit Day. She was also an invited presenter at the City of Chicago's Delegate Agency Annual Fiscal Conference.

    Polanco currently serves on the Board of Directors for the New York Better Business Bureau Foundation and chairs the Foundation's Hispanic Advisory Committee. She serves on the Corporate and Advisory Boards for Acelero Learning, an organization that partners with local communities to support high quality Head Start programs. She has also served on the Board of Governance Matters. Other memberships include the American Institute of CPAs, New York State Society of CPAs and its Not-for-Profit Organizations Committee.

    She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from New York University. Polanco also holds the Certification in Control Self-Assessment from the Institute of Internal Auditors, awarded to practitioners who can provide guidance on risk, controls and business objectives.
