- Indianapolis, IN (1888PressRelease) March 05, 2013 - Harrison College (http://www.harrison.edu/ ), an institution of higher learning with more than 5,000 students studying at 14 campuses and online, has announced that it has launched a comprehensive ICD-10 training curriculum designed to equip physicians, coders and other medical staff with the tools necessary to successfully transition to ICD-10 coding requirements.
The new program, which became available on Jan. 28, 2013, is a fully AHiMA approved, online, instructor-led course that will provide students with the necessary skills to tackle the mandated transition from the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision (ICD-9) to the Tenth Revision, ICD-10, effective Oct. 1, 2014. All online instructors for the ICD-10 course are also AHiMA approved.
Customized to meet the varying learning needs of medical professionals affected by ICD-10, the program will provide students with immediate feedback on all activities and assessments throughout the course to reinforce educational objectives as well as encourage subject mastery. Additionally, students will become aware of the potential obstacles posed by the transition to ICD-10 coding in regards to coding a more extensive range of medical conditions and procedures. The in-depth program will also include critical thinking questions that will allow students to analyze the module concepts, with web links to supplement case study text to provide students with opportunities for further study.
Harrison College's ICD-10 training will appeal to many professional coders seeking to master the ICD-10-CM codes prior to their implementation, as the new codes will be designed for use in all U.S. healthcare treatment settings. Upon completion of the 18 hour online and instructor-led course, students will receive a Certification of Completion to designate they are ICD-10-CM/PCS proficient. Harrison College also offers curricula for non-coders including nurses, allied health professionals and physicians that are AHiMA, AACP and CME approved.
