Harris Corporation Supplies NEXIO AMP Server and Storage Solution to Bayerischer Rundf
Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, announces that German regional public sector broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) is installing Harris® NEXIO AMP® transmission servers with shared storage as part of a broadcast infrastructure upgrade to support additional HD channels at its Munich facility.
- (1888PressRelease) September 09, 2011 - Two fully redundant Harris NEXIO AMP server systems are replacing the existing production and playout server infrastructure to significantly increase the overall throughput of the system, supporting BR's main broadcast channels. The two systems provide 116 bidirectional HD ports with very high bandwidth to support file-based workflows.
The server systems will work in combination with an 80TB NEXIO® NXIQ™ near-line storage system to provide dramatic improvements in file transfer capabilities. The auto-sensing capability of the NEXIO AMP servers at the ingest point brings further efficiencies by reducing the overall number of ingest ports required.
The equipment will be embedded in the customer's workflow and integrate with an Avid® news production system, as well as existing Harris® ADC™ playout automation and Invenio® digital asset management software. The complete, integrated Harris infrastructure provides a sophisticated and advanced HD workflow with ample bandwidth for maximum efficiency.
"The Bayerischer Rundfunk project is an ideal example of how broadcasters today are seeking tighter integration of systems across the workflow to enhance production and playout capabilities," said Harris Morris, president, Harris Broadcast Communications. "This tight level of workflow integration is especially ideal in production and news environments, significantly reducing bottlenecks and other challenges in fast-paced environments."
Harris is teaming with local systems integrator VTS Studiotechnik GmbH to provide a complete array of professional services, including project management and system commissioning and installation. In addition to leading the integration project, VTS Studiotechnik GmbH will upgrade the broadcaster's existing ADC and Invenio systems.
In broadcast communications, Harris offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions for broadcast, cable, satellite and out-of-home networks. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that enable advanced media workflows for emerging content delivery business models.
