(1888PressRelease) August 17, 2010 - RALEIGH, NC - Wake Technical Community College has awarded Hardin Construction Company to build an innovative, six-level parking facility to be completed in 300 days at the college's Health Sciences Campus.
The $6.9 million Health Sciences 2 Parking Deck is designed to a 100-year standard and will feature some complex systems for achieving this objective.
The project will encompass a number of sustainability features, for which the college hopes to earn points toward LEED certification for a future academic building, to which the parking deck will be connected.
LEED-or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design- is a third-party certification program of the U.S. Green Building Council and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
"Hardin Construction is honored to be a part of this innovative project with Wake Technical Community College," said Hardin Vice President Tom Booth, who heads Hardin's Raleigh office. "Hardin shares Wake Tech's commitment to sustainability and looks forward to helping the college achieve its goals for the project."
Hardin Construction is widely recognized for its expertise in green building and for obtaining LEED certifications for its clients.
The architect of record is BBH Design of North Carolina.
The Wake Tech parking facility will be a cast-in-place, post-tensioned deck. The project's sustainability features will include construction waste recycling, light-reflective surfaces on the deck's top two floors and use of concrete with corrosion inhibitors.
The project is scheduled to complete in the spring of 2011.
