Hamner Institutes To Offer Course On The Principles Of PBPK Modeling
Hamner To Present Course On Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetic Modeling And Its Applications.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) July 25, 2012 - The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences (http://www.thehamner.org) has announced that it will offer a one week course from Monday, Sept. 24 through Friday, Sept. 28 that covers the principles of pharmacokinetic modeling and the applications of the technique in risk assessment, drug development in vitro to in vivo extrapolation (IVIVE) and the estimation of exposures from human biomonitoring data. The course features comprehensive lectures and extensive hands-on computer modeling practice, led by Drs. Harvey Clewell, Melvin Andersen and faculty from The Hamner's Center for Human Health Assessment. Attendees may claim up to six hours per day for American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) CM credit.
The course is designed to serve a variety of scientific communities. These include industrial, pharmaceutical and regulatory scientists desiring to interpret the results of in vitro or in vivo toxicity assays in terms of their implications for human health; toxicologists and research scientists who develop or conduct in vitro or in vivo toxicity assays; individuals desiring to learn how to develop and apply PBPK models; and individuals interested in promoting the use of alternatives to live animal testing for regulatory requirements such as REACH (the European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use).
Prospective attendees who register by Friday, Aug. 31 will receive a discount. General registration ends Friday, Sept. 21. To register for the course, visit http://bit.ly/NajKvq.
QUOTES:
"We are very pleased to offer the PBPK modeling course in September to the scientific community," said Dr. William F. Greenlee, The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences president and CEO. "The Hamner has a proud heritage of training the next generation of toxicologists from academia, industry and government. The scientists enrolled in this workshop have a unique opportunity to receive instruction from highly regarded faculty who have made seminal contributions to the field of pharmacokinetic modeling."

ABOUT THE HAMNER INSTITUTES FOR HEALTH SCIENCES:
The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences is a nonprofit research organization located in the heart of Research Triangle Park (RTP), N.C. The two flagship institutes at The Hamner, the Institute for Chemical Safety Sciences and the Hamner-UNC Institute for Drug Safety Sciences, build upon 35 years of preeminent research in toxicology and human health research to develop and validate new cutting-edge tools for safety assessment. Novel technologies currently being developed include in silico models for predictive toxicology, in vitro models that utilize human cells or cell lines to evaluate perturbations of cellular responses, and in vivo models to elucidate genes that play a role in susceptibility to drug-induced toxicities. The Hamner continues to grow its open, multidisciplinary campus through global partnerships with academia, industry, and government, and remains dedicated to positively impacting human health.
