- (1888PressRelease) January 21, 2013 - Everyone has good days. On January 5 and 6 Gymfinity Gymnastics of Fitchburg had 2 very good days. The team from Wisconsin traveled to St. Paul Minnesota to compete in the Crowley's Winter Challenge a gymnastics meet that draws over 1700 gymnasts from as far as Maryland. The competition included basic compulsory levels and the more advanced optional levels. The USA Gymnastics (the national governing body for gymnastics) system allows 10 levels of competition with the 11th level being Elite Olympic skills. Gymfinity's team consisted of Level 7, Level 8 and Level 9 gymnasts competing individually and as a team.
Saturday held competition for the Level 7 and 8 teams. The Gymfinity team 7 girls placed second overall as a team with individual honors going to Abbie Davis placing 3rd on Floor, Addie Schipper 3rd on Vault, Angeline Flogel 3rd on Uneven Bars, and Olivia Castleberg placing 2nd on balance beam and the all around.
Level 8 honors went to Skye Swartz who placed 2nd in the All around and won the title of champion on uneven bars. Coach J Orkowski said, "We went in not sure of how Skye would do on bars, she's had a rough couple of weeks but she really pulled it together when it counted."
In the highest level of Gymfinity teams present, Level 9, great showings were made. Chelsea Gray took the championship on beam for her age group, with Mari Schroeder placing second. Gymfinity's standout performance came from Brianna Slonim of Verona, Wisconsin. She was named the meet champion on all 4 events and the All Around. "Bri was right on all day," said Orkowski. "She trains hard and has had to overcome a nagging elbow injury from last year. She will have a good year though she will be an underdog in late season competitions for sure, I think she will impress a lot of people." In addition to winning all events Slonim was also noted as having "The Most Dynamic Vault," a title bestowed by judges during a session. Other side awards given included Gymfinity's Olivia Castleberg winning "Most Confident Beam Routine" and Hannah Hageman winning the "Best Handstand."
The Level 9 team placed second as a team as well and brought home a sizable trophy.
Gymfinity is a program that has become the hub of competitive gymnastics in the Madison area.
