Guide by Cell Mobile Audio Tour Gives Boost to Kansas City Outdoor Public Art Initiative
Guide by Cell has provided the mobile audio technology for a new public art tour in downtown Kansas City.
- (1888PressRelease) October 11, 2010 - SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Leading mobile service provider Guide by Cell has worked with the Metropolitan Kansas City Public Art Consortium to create the Public Art Navigator--a free, cell phone-guided audio tour of 15 of downtown Kansas City's public artworks.
The Public Art Navigator is part of an effort to revitalize interest in the city's vast outdoor art collection, and is accessible to tourists, residents, art enthusiasts, or anyone with a working cell phone.
Visitors dial the posted phone number on each work of art and follow prompts to hear individual artists share exciting information about their piece.
The audio tour also acknowledges many of the city's public and private art programs, including the significant impact of the Kansas City Municipal 1% for Art program.
"Public art is seen every day by a great number of people, but it is often difficult to share information about the artwork with our viewers," said Porter Arneill, Director of the Kansas City Municipal Art Commission. "The information provided by the Public Art Navigator program is designed to engage viewers on a new level."
