greeNEWit Now Approved Contractor in DHCD's Be SMART Home Energy Loan Program
greeNEWit is excited to be a part of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Better Buildings Program that are expected to improve the efficiency of more than 170,000 buildings and save up to $65 million in energy costs annually.
- Baltimore, MD (1888PressRelease) November 18, 2016 - Results of a home energy audit include comprehensive identification of areas of energy loss, as well as health and safety issues. The audit is often eye-opening, but then what happens next? Audits don't save you energy or money, but home energy retrofits do. A retrofit is the renovation process that specifically addresses problems found in an energy audit. For many families, financing this type of work can be a challenge.
In response, local energy solutions firm, greeNEWit, has just become an approved contractor in the Department of Housing and Community Development's (DHCD) Be SMART Home Loan Program. The Be SMART Home Loan Program offers a 4.99% loan across the state of Maryland to improve home energy efficiency through replacement and upgrading of appliances, heating, cooling and ventilation systems and whole house envelope improvements, such as air sealing and insulation. These changes are intended to save the homeowner money, increase the safety and comfort of the home, and add value to the home.
If a homeowner is concerned about high energy bills, has been frustrated with rooms that are too hot or too cold, and believes there is unlocked efficiency potential in their home, greeNEWit may be able to help. Recognized by the Department of Energy as a Contractor of the Year in 2016, greeNEWit's home energy audits analyze and prioritize all aspects of a home's performance. Throughout this detailed evaluation, it's very common for homeowners to learn surprising things about the way their home's systems work together. For example, if a home's second floor is hard to cool in the summer, the source of the problem may be in the attic and a new air conditioner isn't actually the solution.
"We are proud to partner with DHCD," Roby said. "We believe this collaboration is a perfect fit for Maryland families who don't want or deserve to live in homes that are uncomfortable and inefficient."
greeNEWit adds the Be SMART Home Loan to their portfolio of financing options in an effort to make home energy efficiency more accessible to the community. Another option is to use the Maryland Home Energy Loan Program (MHELP) that offers a 9.99% rate with 12 months same as cash and 90 days deferred payment. These loan programs can be complemented by rebates from local utilities. For example, home energy retrofit work can be eligible for up to $4,300 if you start with an energy audit through the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program offered to Maryland customers by BGE and Pepco.
