- Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) June 04, 2014 - Greenberg Gross LLP, the Costa Mesa firm launched in April 2013 by two Greenberg Traurig LLP shareholders who had grabbed national headlines for a $50 million jury verdict, announced the hiring of two litigation attorneys from the Los Angeles offices of highly respected law firms. The firm, which specializes in high-stakes business litigation, won two significant trials in 2013, and is scheduled to try four additional large-scale trials in 2014.
Alan Greenberg, the firm's managing partner, said that the firm's immense workload necessitated a bold move to capture the best legal talent in Los Angeles and beyond: "We have no problem paying top-of-the-market compensation to obtain the best and brightest lawyers in the country to ensure that we continue providing world-class legal service in every case."
The most senior of the new hires is Kevin Mokhtari, a seventh-year attorney who joins the firm as Counsel from the Los Angeles office of O'Melveny. At O'Melveny, where Mokhtari has practiced for his entire career and was promoted to the position of Counsel, he specialized in complex litigation, including class action defense and intellectual property litigation. A Southern California Super Lawyers "Rising Star" in class actions and IP litigation in 2013 and 2014, Mokhtari graduated from UCLA Law School in 2007, where he served on the UCLA Entertainment Law Review.
In addition, the firm hired Bret Hembd, a fourth-year attorney who joins the firm as Associate from the Century City office of Irell & Manella LLP, where he specialized in commercial and intellectual property litigation. Hembd graduated from Yale Law School in 2010, where he served as editor of the Yale Law Journal.
This is not the first time that Greenberg Gross has hired attorneys from outside of Orange County. In addition to hiring Mokhtari and Hembd from Los Angeles, the firm hired Counsel Joshua D. Franklin, a fourteen-year lawyer who, prior to joining Greenberg Gross, worked in Denver at top firms, including Arnold & Porter LLP, and Daniel R. Gutenplan, a sixth-year lawyer who, prior to relocating to Orange County, worked in Los Angeles at Lavely & Singer PC. Alan Greenberg explained the firm's hiring philosophy as follows: "To be the firm of choice for plaintiffs and defendants in their most significant and challenging business cases, we must continue to attract the best legal talent in the country. We do this not only by paying great compensation, but also by providing a dynamic and exciting litigation environment with an exclusive focus on high-stakes trial work. It is this combination that serves as a gravitational pull to attract the best litigation talent in Southern California and beyond."
With the addition of the two new lawyers, Greenberg Gross has now attained a complement of ten litigation attorneys within the firm's first fourteen months.
