Green Stars Go Global for Earth Day
The recently launched Green Star UAE campaign is encouraging people to put a face to sustainability issues in honour of Earth Day, which is being celebrated around the world today.
- (1888PressRelease) April 22, 2013 - Launched by Bosch Home Appliances in March 2013, the Green Star campaign aims to promote sustainability by encouraging communities to take simple steps in their everyday lives to save resources and become a 'Green Star'. The campaign reaches out to all corners of the UAE and is partnering with schools across the country, where it teaches children the importance of the environment and how they can help to save it. There is also an online element, which is open to residents across the emirates. Participants have the opportunity to demonstrate how they're being 'Green Stars' in their everyday lives on the dedicated 'I am a Green Star' app. Anyone can upload a photograph demonstrating how they are being sustainable or making a positive difference to the UAE environment with winners receiving a super-efficient Bosch home appliance.
To harness the power of Earth Day, Green Star is contributing to Earth Day Network's "Faces of Climate Change", which is collecting images of people, animals and places affected by climate change, as well as images of people doing their part in the fight against climate change. An interactive digital display of all these images will be shown at thousands of events around the world, and the display is also available online to anyone who wants to view it, show it or read the stories.
"This is an amazing opportunity to personalize the massive challenge that climate change presents, while uniting people from the UAE with people from around the world into a powerful call to action," said Georg Kazantzidis, Marketing Director Bosch Home Appliances Middle East. "Everyone who has already taken part in Green Star, or does so this week, will be added to this global, digital mosaic and have their face added to the fight against climate change.
"Campaigns like Green Star and Faces of Climate Change really personalise the message of sustainability and help bring awareness to people who might not realise how little things they do around the house, like conserving water or switching of their light switches, can add up and make a positive difference to the world we are creating."
Green Star launched its environmental campaign at Jumeirah Baccalaureate School (JBS) last month, encouraging students to take steps towards becoming more sustainable citizens. The visit saw the students given tips to save water in their daily tasks, as well as a demonstration of Bosch's award winning super-efficient products which rank in the highest energy ratings according to the European energy labelling scheme and are among the most environmentally friendly in the market.
Green Star aims to visit every school in the country over the next 12 months and will also be seen in the wider community through online and offline actions that will engage the UAE public, teach sustainability and encourage the efficient use of energy and resources.
