- Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) February 10, 2011 - AeroScout, the leading provider of Healthcare Visibility Solutions, today announced that Great Ormond Street Hospital, an NHS Trust, has implemented AeroScout's Asset Tracking and Management solution at its London, UK facilities. The project was deployed by Block Solutions, a local AeroScout partner with deep healthcare expertise. With the AeroScout Real Time Location System (RTLS), the hospital is optimizing the use of critical and expensive equipment. The initial deployment at the internationally-renowned children's hospital quickly demonstrated the fact that many benefits could be gained, including saving time, reducing waste and thus improving quality of care.
Since its formation in 1852, Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) has been dedicated to pediatric healthcare and to finding new and better ways to treat childhood illnesses. The hospital is the largest trainer of children's healthcare specialists in the UK and boasts the broadest range of dedicated specialists in one place. At GOSH, 3,200 staff members provide care and compassion for nearly 200,000 patient visits each year.
"We implemented AeroScout's Asset Tracking solution to help achieve our overall goals of 'No wait, No waste, Zero harm'. Clinicians and patients have equipment when needed, we are better utilizing critical assets and are able to better maintain them as well," said Mark Large, IT Director at Great Ormond Street Hospital. "We have been amazed by the efficiency that the AeroScout solution offers."
As part of a Trust initiative to improve GOSH's overall infrastructure, the hospital determined that the tasks of locating and managing medical equipment was incurring significant cost and extending timescales of clinical workflows. AeroScout's solution is one of many projects that are helping the Trust transform the quality of care given to patients and meet its three established goals of 'No wait, No waste, Zero harm'. These goals are extremely important to GOSH and are being supported by AeroScout in the following ways:
• No Wait - key equipment is found much faster which prevents delays for patients and clinicians
• No Waste - less equipment is not locatable at any given time, and better asset utilization prevents overbuying
• Zero Harm - improved asset management enables better maintenance of medical equipment and ensures quick recalls when necessary
AeroScout's Asset Tracking and Management solution is Wi-Fi-based, avoiding the need to purchase and deploy a proprietary RFID network. Instead, GOSH leverages its standard Wi-Fi network to support the deployment, lowering the hospital's total cost of ownership.
Using AeroScout's Wifi RFID Tags, GOSH tracks and manages medical equipment such as specialized cots and infusion pumps. AeroScout's MobileView software enables staff members to quickly find critical equipment, run reports and manage assets. The biomedical engineering team, the initial users of the system, has already seen substantial improvement in resolution times for requests for equipment and the frequency of not locatable inventory has decreased.
"Great Ormond Street Hospital is known as a global leader in pediatric care and in its use of advanced solutions to improve patient care," said Alan Heath, Director, Northern Europe and Southern Africa at AeroScout. "Together with Block Solutions, we are proud to help such a prestigious healthcare organization improve its operational efficiency and quality of care."
AeroScout will be showcasing its healthcare solutions in booth #E44 at the Cisco Live Conference in London, U.K., February 1-3, 2011.
