    More about the bands…

Opening Day/Seniors' Day, Wednesday, August 31st, Country Star Lee Brice

The rugged feel of steel guitar and fiddle, the images of growing up in a world of fields and farms, of heartbreak and hard work … You can't miss the fact that Lee Brice is country all the way. It's in his voice - think of it as honey trickling through lines of melody etched in leather - and in the images it conjures, of "country girls and redneck boys" anticipating the night to come in the sunset glow of a Dairy Queen ("Sumter County"), of growing up "on the edge of a cornfield" ("Picture of Me"). www.leebrice.com

Military Day, Friday, September 2nd, WAR

The multi-platinum award-winning band, WAR has been one of the most popular funk groups for over 40 years. WAR was also one of the most eclectic, freely melding soul, Latin, jazz, blues, reggae, and rock influences into an effortlessly funky whole. Although WAR's lyrics were sometimes political in nature (in keeping with their racially integrated lineup), their music almost always had a sunny, laid-back vibe emblematic of their Southern California roots. WAR's "Lowrider" is the theme song for the ABC series "The George Lopez Show" and the band recently appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! Show. www.wartheband.com

Junior Livestock Day, Saturday, September 3rd, Nuthin Fancy-A Tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd

Each member of Nuthin Fancy has at least twenty years of musical/stage experience, which has assisted them in collectively developing a sense of professionalism and unity unparalleled by other bands. "They look and sound so much like the real Skynyrd" commented one observer "I have to keep reminding myself they're not the real thing". From "Sweet Home Alabama" to "Free Bird" and many others, fairgoers will enjoy this talented tribute band. www.skynyrdtribute.com

    Pattee Arena (paid show) (tba)

Picnic Day, Monday, September 5th - Aja Vu-A Tribute to Steely Dan (3:30 PM & 6:30 PM)

The San Francisco-based Aja Vu band performs the music of Steely Dan. Close your eyes and you'll be there, Aja Vu is everything they say! From "Hey Nineteen" and "Reelin' In The Years" to "Deacon Blues" and "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", you can buy a thrill when you hear the tight chunky horns, vocals and solos note for note and phrase for phrase backed up by an unparalleled rhythm section. The Aja Vu show recreates the combination of rock, jazzy blues and unique storytelling that has made the Steely Dan sound endure throughout pop culture for 30+ years! http://www.ajavu.com
