  • (1888PressRelease) August 02, 2017 - DALLAS, Texas - The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL) is saddened by the death of renowned smooth and contemporary jazz artist, Chuck Loeb.

Loeb, 61, was one of the notable guest artists slated to perform on TBAAL’s upcoming Riverfront Jazz Festival, Labor Day Weekend, September 1-3, 2017 at Texas Horse Park, 811 Pemberton Hill Road, Dallas, 75217.

“This was an incredible shock to me. We extend our sympathy and words of encouragement to his family, friends and fans,” said Curtis King, the Festival’s Founder and Producer. “Chuck Loeb was one of the very first artists who said yes immediately to performing in the Dallas festival. When he and his management reviewed our request stating that the festival proceeds would benefit TBAAL’s Youth Arts-and-Education Program, he said ‘I will contribute by participating.’”

Loeb, a versatile guitarist, composer and producer, began his career in 1988 with his debut album, My Shining Hour on the Japanese record label Pony Canyon. He released subsequent albums on DMP Digital Music Products until receiving commercial success with Shanachie Records on The Music Inside. The title song from the album held the number one position on the jazz charts for six weeks. Later, Loeb produced Moon, the Stars & the Setting Sun (1998), Listen (1999) and In a Heartbeat (2001) and All There Is (2002).

Loeb’s management company is working with Mr. King to select a replacement for the performance slot.

“During Mr. Loeb’s time slot on Sunday, Sept. 3, we’ll take a moment to acknowledge his music contribution and the spiritual power of his presence,” Mr. King said. “He was a great musician and artists who showed a great diversity in his approach to smooth jazz. He appealed to a cross-generation audience.”
