Grassroot Diplomat Prepares Embassies and Global Diplomats for the Brexit Crisis
Getting diplomats around the world prepared for a post-Brexit with strategies to help them operate better and fluidly in the host country.

People were crying. They were painfully aware of how much harm could result from such a medieval regression.” These are the words of Talyn Rahman-Figueroa, the Chief Executive Officer of Grassroot Diplomat.
A non-profit diplomatic consultancy, Grassroot Diplomat strives to modernise how diplomats operate with various stakeholders, and helps embassies improve their national image by breaking stereotypes and misconceptions. When the Brexit result broke the news, Rahman-Figueroa contacted the members of her Board, recognising that the organisation couldn’t just sit by and do nothing.
“Be the source for calm and peace,” one of her board members advised. “You need to write a handbook. Write a guide on ways that embassies can protect the interests of their citizens in times of such crisis.” And that is exactly what she did.
Ms Rahman-Figueroa and her co-author, Jeannette Viens, spent a solid two years developing strategies specifically designed for diplomats and embassies to help them improve their operations in the host country. Published by Grassroot Diplomat, the Brexit Handbook: Management of Civil Society for Embassies and Diplomats provides evidence why it is essential for diplomats and governments to lead on matters of their people and country in a more public facing role. The handbook focuses on how diplomats can provide a sense of calm and clarity that strategically places the people first. In their words, restoring leadership will foster better response and higher level of communication that is currently absent in how governments operation within a multinational world.
The Brexit Handbook does not discuss hypothetical matter of points to avoid speculations on areas that depend on political discussions and negotiations. Instead, the handbook concentrates solely on the management of family disruption, the lack of security in regards to passports and jobs, the effects of changes made to national law to the movement of people, as well as the rise in social tension, xenophobia and racism.
