Graduates Reflect On Time Spent Learning at Remington College Shreveport
Student never gave up and hopes others won’t either.
- Shreveport-Bossier City, LA (1888PressRelease) October 05, 2017 - How do you define success? You usually find a different answer with each person you ask. For Suzanne Rich and Christy Stevens-Lewis, it’s completing their education programs at Remington College Shreveport.
“Did I want to give up? Absolutely,” recalls Suzanne. “But my instructors wouldn’t let me. They continued to encourage me to keep fighting for what I wanted.”
“The instructors are wonderful,” remembers Christy. “If I was struggling with something, they took time to walk me through the problem.”
Christy was a preschool teacher, experiencing a rough time in her life, when she decided it was time for a change. She was interested in the medical field and enrolled in Remington College Shreveport’s Medical Billing and Coding diploma program.
Suzanne is a mother of three, who has been working for Louisiana State Parks as a lead custodian; however, she is now pursuing a move to the business office. In August, she completed the Remington College Shreveport’s Associate Degree program in Business Administration.
The campus opened its doors to students 10 years ago. In that time, thousands of students have graduated; receiving tools to help find entry-level work in a specific field. Remington College Shreveport is busy making final preparations for its 10th Anniversary celebration on Tuesday, October 3. The community is invited to participate and explore the opportunities available at Remington College Shreveport.
“My classmates and I became a close-knit family,” says Christy. “If one of us was having trouble, we rallied together to offer support.”
Suzanne says she chose Remington College Shreveport for the smaller class-sizes and close interaction with instructors.
“My instructors took time to get to know me and understand the reasons for enrolling in the Business Administration program,” explains Suzanne. “They cared about how I was doing in my classes, and they cared about how I was coping with the personal challenges I was facing at home. They were the ones motivating me, even when I felt like I couldn’t keep going.”
Both women hope anyone, who might be facing similar circumstances they once did, will hear their words and follow in their footsteps.
“It’s all worth going through,” Suzanne reveals. “You learn from it. You will be proud of yourself once you finish. There’s no better feeling than that accomplishment.”
“You will have all the support needed to get you through,” says Christy. “Whether it’s the instructors or your classmates, someone is there to help. The career services team will also help find opportunities for new doors to be opened in your life. Your life will change.”
