  • Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) October 27, 2010 - Madrid Network and Casa de Madrid have announced the upcoming 2010 International Conference on Renewable Energy, Only Sustainable to be hosted by Miami-Dade College, in collaboration with Enterprise Florida and the Trade Commission of Spain in Miami. The conference will gather an array of experts, business leaders, and public officials at MDC's Wolfson Campus Chapman Conference Center in downtown Miami (300 NE 2nd Ave, 33132) on November 4 - 5, 2010. For registration information, visit www.onlysustainable.com.

Only Sustainable will bring together over thirty high-caliber panelists, including representatives from local, federal and foreign governments, business leaders from the U.S. and Spain, and subject matter experts for one of the biggest conferences on renewable energy in the region. The agenda will provide insights into diverse topics within a context of sustainable development and renewable sources of energy in Florida, the Americas, and Spain.

Some of the panelists participating include MDC president Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón; Francisco Granados, minister of presidency, Justice and Interior for the government of Madrid; Frank Nero, president and CEO of The Beacon Council; Miami-Dade County Commissioner Natacha Seijas; James Murley, commission chair of the Florida Energy and Climate Commission; Maria Teresa Costa, president of Spain's National Energy Commission; Juan Verde, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe-U.S. Department of Commerce International Trade Administration; and many others.

The topics will include discussions on the current state of energy projects on both sides of the Atlantic, solar and wind power; bio-energies; and industry-specific legal, regulatory, and business frameworks, as well as other critical aspects relating to renewable energy in the construction sector (green building). The conference will be a must for attorneys, state and municipal officials, land owners, environmentalists, utility managers, real estate developers and professionals, bankers and financial institutions, renewable energy companies, and investors.

The rise in demand for renewable energies, as well as the growing interest from the private and public sectors from the regions above mentioned, have created a crucial need for a conference of this kind. At a local level, the United Sates is aiming at doubling the renewable energy production within the next three years, and the Obama administration's target is to position the country as the world's leading renewable energy producer. Internationally, Latin America's market scale and proactive renewable energy policies are moving its renewable energy industry towards a key tipping point, and Spain is one of the world's biggest producers of wind power, photovoltaic electricity in new buildings, solar hot water systems and commercial solar power.

It is only fitting that Only Sustainable is hosted by MDC, a leader in sustainability initiatives in higher education. In 1993, Miami Dade College created the Earth Ethics Institute (EEI) to coordinate college-wide efforts to promote environmental literacy, but the College's "green" legacy goes back much farther. The Environmental Education Center at the Kendall Campus launched in the 1970s as a demonstration center of best practices well before the environment was a topic of popular concern.

This international conference is officially sponsored by Caja Madrid and Iberia with the support of over twenty organizations and institutions including the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, Beacon Council, Gateway Florida, Latin Builder's Association, and FIBA.
