Goughary Ready for Rounds Five and Six as F1600 Series Rolls into Mid-Ohio
The F1600 Series makes its way to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
- (1888PressRelease) June 30, 2011 - P1 Groupe driver Jim Goughary's name can always be found near the top of the leaderboard or driver point standings during the stretch run of any racing season, and as the F1600 Series makes its way to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Goughary finds himself in the hunt for the F1600 Driver Points Championship in its inaugural season. Mid-Ohio will host the fifth and sixth rounds of the ten round season, and through four rounds Goughary sits fourth in the driver championship standings with one win at Virginia International Raceway in round one and three Top-10s. It has been a solid season thus far for the driver of the #7 Raceworks Honda Piper DF5, and he hopes to continue that success this weekend on a track where he has raced well his whole career. The Raceworks team is based in Atlanta, GA.
When asked about Mid-Ohio Goughary had many positive comments. "Mid-Ohio should be good for us. I have a lot of time there and have had excellent results in the past. My first race at Mid-Ohio was in 1988! I sat on the front row of a Sports Renault field that had 80 entries! At the Valvoline Runoffs I had three second place finishes, three third place finishes and all were very close battles. We have been making more progress with the car since Watkins Glen and hope to have just a bit more speed. Many people are thinking that Mid-Ohio will favor the Honda powered cars because we have more torque than the Fords, but I don't believe that. I think the Fords still have a slight power advantage, and we are going to have to beat them with handling. This weekend should be very interesting and very close. We are fourth in points at the moment and we need to win races to get back on top, so we are going with every intention to do just that."
