Golden Rice booth to rise at crop science conference
IRRI touts Golden Rice benefits at 21st Scientific Conference of the Federation of Crop Science Societies of the Philippines.
- (1888PressRelease) May 10, 2011 - MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) are teaming up to exhibit at the 21st Scientific Conference of the Federation of Crop Science Societies of the Philippines (FCSSP) on May 9-14, 2011 at the La Piazza Hotel and Convention Center in Legaspi City, Philippines.
Golden Rice, a new type of rice that contains beta carotene, a source of vitamin A, is to be featured in the exhibit booth that PhilRice and IRRI are putting up. Posters and video materials that talk about the potentials of Golden Rice to help in the fight against vitamin A deficiency will be put on display, and print materials on the topic will also be distributed to conference participants and guests.
Meanwhile, Dr. Antonio Alfonso, Chief Science Research Specialist and team leader of the Golden Rice project at PhilRice, will deliver a plenary presentation on the Golden Rice project being a model for public-private partnership.
The FCSSP conference carries the theme "Public-Private Partnership for Sustainable Agricultural Research, Development, and Extension." Dr. Nenita V. Desamero, FCSSP chair for 2011, said that the conference will bring together experts and workers from the fields of agricultural research, development and extension and the industry. They have also invited all those who have a keen interest in agriculture, farmer clients, and other stakeholders. The highlight of the conference-on top of the paper and poster presentation and competition-is the agrientrepreneurs' forum.
