(1888PressRelease) January 07, 2012 - MIAMI, FL - As gold bullion sees its best week for a month, investors' eyes are focused on the latest US jobs report, published Friday. The report showed a small drop in unemployment; very small really, considering seasonal hiring during December and the fact that Canada, with approximately one tenth the population of the US created one sixth as many jobs in the same period! Nevertheless, this seems to have served to send the dollar up and, of course, the euro down. Interestingly, however, gold did not really go down that much, despite the gains made by the dollar and some profit taking. Physical demand seems to be helping the precious metal sustain its rally.
"The first week of the year has been an excellent week for gold," says Bill Hionas of Pan American Metals of Miami. "It has managed not only to rebound strongly from December lows but has maintained that rebound, even in the face of a rising dollar. Banks and financial experts around the globe are beginning to rethink their estimates for the average price of gold during 2012, revising them upwards."
Meanwhile, Europe continues to experience problems; many financiers believe that a default by any nation, were it to occur, would cause the price of gold to skyrocket. At present, owning gold bullion continues to provide the best collateral against currency collapse or inflation.
