- (1888PressRelease) August 25, 2010 - MILFORD, Conn - SUBWAY® Restaurants opened bidding of the unique baseballs which are part of the second annual SUBWAY® Baseball DeSIGNS program. The Baseball DeSIGNS tour features baseballs which were decorated by Little Leaguers then autographed by celebrities and professional athletes. The auction showcases more than 40 baseballs, which are viewable at SubwayKids.com and the Official SUBWAY® Facebook page with the auction closing August 29.
Designed by Little Leaguers, these unique baseballs are autographed by athletes such as swimming great Michael Phelps, professional baseball players Alex Rodriguez, CC Sabathia and Ryan Howard, NASCAR driver Carl Edwards and four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon; celebrities staring in hit movie and television series including Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone, Brittany Snow, Zac Levi; and music artists including The Jonas Brothers, Good Charlotte and Boys Like Girls.
The auction, coordinated as part of eBay's Giving Works program, will run for 10 days beginning August 20 coinciding with the Little League Baseball World Series. Total proceeds benefit the Little League Urban Initiative, which provides assistance packages for eligible leagues that aid the local volunteer group with equipment acquisition, field development and renovation, access to Little League® Baseball and Softball Education and Training programs, advocacy, and networking.
The Baseball DeSIGNS tour has been on display online at SubwayKids.com and the Official SUBWAY® Facebook page. It has also made physical appearances in Los Angeles as part of a national Little League Baseball Appreciation Game, in Anaheim during All-Star activities, in New York during one of baseball's longest running rivalries, and in Williamsport, PA., with the Little League Baseball World Series.
The tour has been visited by baseball legends and famous fans of SUBWAY® including former Los Angeles Dodgers great and ESPN personality Orel Hershiser, New York Yankees legend Bucky Dent, and Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer Fred Lynn.
